Quarter End Review
In an effort to provide all of our partners with transparent and simple to understand materials, below is a brief overview of financial markets updated as of 3/31/15.
As always, feedback is encouraged and appreciated.
- Large-cap U.S. equities encountered significant turbulence in the first quarter. The S&P 500® Index ended the quarter up approximately 1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average® was relatively flat
- Unlike their large-cap counterparts, mid- and small-cap equities enjoyed a strong quarter. The S&P MidCap 400® Index and the S&P SmallCap 600® Index ended the quarter up 5.3% and 3.9%, respectively. Growth outperformed value, as the S&P 500 Growth gained over 2.4%, while the S&P 500 Value declined almost 1%
- Following calming guidance from the Fed, fixed income indices increased across the board. The S&P U.S. Aggregate Bond Index gained 1.4% while the S&P High Yield Index gained 2.6% in the quarter and the S&P Muni Bond Index was up almost 1%.
- International markets produced mixed results with Latin America generating negative results and Asia and Europe ending the quarter in positive territory. Overall, the S&P Developed Ex-US BMI® Index was up over 4.2% and S&P Emerging BMI® Index was up over 1.6%
